Late last year it was rumored that Kanye West was one of the headliners for Coachella 2019. Now it looks like it won’t happen due to negotiations reportedly falling through due to the stage design.
According to TMZ, sources reportedly revealed that Kanye made it clear that he wouldn’t perform on a traditional 60×40 foot stage because it is “artistically limiting.”
Goldenvoice, who produces Coachella, said they would not allow the stage to be altered or removed for Kanye’s performance. Therefore, he passed on the opportunity altogether. The source added, “These 40×60 stages are so archaic. It’s the same type of stage on which Shakespeare’s works were performed hundreds of years ago.”
Now if ya’ll know Kanye, ya’ll know that his stage designs are more than ordinary. Back in 2016, his stage for his Saint Pablo Tour moved above the crowd.
Back in November, Kanye and Kid Cudi performed at Camp Flog Gnaw in Los Angeles inside of a floating box. Their performance was met with criticism from singer Lorde after she accused them of stealing her design.
Nonetheless, Kanye has been known to literally go above and beyond with his stage designs.
It’s not confirmed as of now, but Childish Gambino, Justin Timberlake, and Rihanna are rumored headliners for Coachella 2019.
Roommates, what are your thoughts?
