Oop! Kanye West is getting a lot off his chest regarding terminating his deal with Gap! In a recent interview with CNBC on ‘Closing Bell,’ he spoke about working with the company. “It was always a dream of mine to be at the Gap and bring the best product possible to the masses,” he told the network. The rapper and businessman also added that he envisioned top-quality items that could be sold for $20. However, he said he couldn’t ultimately set the price he wanted for the resulting collection.
“Sometimes I would talk to the guys, the leaders, and it would be like I was on mute or something. Obviously, there’s always struggles and back-and-forth when you’re trying to build something new and integrate teams.” The conversation got a little spicy as the ‘DONDA’ rapper got very specific about Gap’s leadership and employees. Kanye said there was only one person on the planet who could save the GAP.
The reporter asked, and Kanye didn’t give a direct answer but said, “Sometimes the answer is sitting right in front of you.” As the conversation continued, he called out the Gap’s leadership, saying, “Don’t bring a leader in and have them not lead. Why would I argue that people are getting paid by the Gap? I’m sorry, you know I’m not gonna argue with people that are broke than me about money.”
The reporter replied, “Understood,” and thanked him for being on the show. According to CNN, Gap’s president and CEO of Gap Brand, Mark Breitbard, spoke out about the termination in an email late Thursday, writing, “We wanted to address the headlines of today and the past several weeks related to Yeezy Gap.” \
He continued, “ Simply put…while we share a vision of bringing high-quality, trend-forward, utilitarian design to all people through unique Omni experiences with Yeezy Gap, how we work together to deliver this vision is not aligned. And we are deciding to wind down the partnership.”
Roommates, what do you think about Kanye’s comments?
