Roommates, Kanye West is reportedly enlisting some #BlackGirlMagic for his upcoming Gap partnership, as Mowalola Ogunlesi is said to be the design director of the upcoming line. Kanye is well-known for his ability to spot and cultivate talent, so Ogunlesi was definitely chosen because of her impressive design skills.
Nigerian-British designer Mowalola Ogunlesi will be the design director of Kanye West’s new Yeezy + Gap collaboration. Kanye initially announced the new partnership with Gap on June 26th and Ogunlesi later took to her Instagram to share the exciting news as well.
Ogunlesi previously attended Central Saint Martins and recently had her London Fashion Week debut back in 2019, featuring her aesthetic of leather, cutout tops, and vibrant patterns. She has worked with such celebrities as Solange, Steve Lacey, Kelela and collaborated with Skepta on his “Pure Water” music video.
As we previously reported, Kanye and the Gap have partnered for a 10 year deal for the “Yeezy Gap,” apparel line. The retailer says that the clothing line will make its introduction during the first half of 2021.
Someone familiar with the negotiations reportedly said that they agreed upon the deal, which starts this month, with the option to renew after five years. The Yeezy design studio, under Kanye’s direction, plans to create a “modern, elevated basics for men, women, and kids at accessible price points.” Kanye will also have an input on how the clothing will be displayed inside of the Gap stores as well as online.
The partnership with Yeezy and the Gap comes when the company, which also owns Old Navy and Banana Republic. started to see a decline in sales. The brand, which also has been affected due to the coronavirus, has reportedly struggled within the past few years.
