Check this out #Roommates a veteran performer #RonaldOslinBobbSemple is suing #KanyeWest #KidCudi and #TyDollaSign for stealing his vocals and using it in their song “Freeee (Ghost Town Pt. 2).”
According to @blast Ronald claimed they took his vocals from a song he recorded in 2002 called “The Spirit of Marcus Garvey.” The song was about Marcus Garvey speaking to an all-Black audience.
As you may recall, Marcus Garvey was a Jamaican man, who came to the U.S. and became the leader of the Pan-African movement in the early 1900s. He believed that all blacks should move to Africa so they wouldn’t have to deal with the racism and hatred towards them in America.
Kanye’s song does mention certain lyrics, such as the beginning when he states “May I say something to give you a true knowledge of yourself and life?” He then goes on to say “Man in the full knowledge of himself is a superb and supreme creature of creation.” This is similar to how Ronald talks at the beginning of every performance he does as Marcus Garvey. He would state something like “Brothers and sisters good evening, I am Marcus Garvey, and I am the leader of the Pan-African Movement.”
The lyrics does not necessarily copy each other, but Kanye did use Ronald’s voice and changed the lyrics for his song “Freee.”
Ronald accused both Kanye and Kid Cudi of exploiting his voice and changing up the song for their joint album without asking Bobb for permission or even offering to pay.
Ronald filed a law suit for them taking his song and not paying him. He is suing for “unspecified damages and an injunction against them from continuing to profit off of his work.”
