Is she single? Is she not? It’s up to the court to decide! As we’ve previously reported, Kim Kardashian filed a motion to be declared single amidst her divorce from Kanye West, and the day of her hearing has finally arrived.
Kim and Kanye’s hearing went down on Wednesday morning, but before Judge Steve Cochran made his ruling, Ye enlisted a new attorney to represent him. Rolling Stone reporter Nancy Dillon confirmed Ye’s change in counsel just before the hearing began.
“We’re outside the courtroom where Kim Kardashian vs. Kanye West is #6 on morning calendar,” Dillon reported. “Ye’s new lawyer is Samantha Spector (recently repped Nicole Young in her $100 million split from Dr. Dre). Kim is asking judge to terminate marital status before custody/property issues resolved.”
Yes, you read that right. Kanye is being represented by the same woman who helped Nicole Young win her whopping $100 million divorce settlement, and it’s clear that he’s looking to protect his assets in the process of his split from Kim.
While Kanye has been publicly asking for his family back, he seemed to be warming up to the idea of becoming a bachelor again. Kanye filed legal documents in mid February to protect his assets in the event that Kim was declared single. Kanye’s previously lawyer stated that he feared Kim might remarry and move their assets to different accounts, and he wants to ensure that the money they have in trust and assets does not get put into the hands of another man.
Nevertheless, Kim is hoping for the judges approval on her request. We’ll keep you updated as this story develops, Roomies.
