Kanye West took a hiatus from social media but returned on Monday with a heated message for Adidas! While Ye partnered with the company to bring his Yeezy streetwear brand to life, he alleged the three stripe brand stole the design for his iconic Yeezy slides.
Adidas teased the release of its 2022 adilette slides–a modern version of it’s classic rubber slide sandal. Kanye reposted a photo of the slides, which feature a similar shape and neutral color palette to the Yeezy slides. The adilette 22’s retail for $55, and Ye expressed his frustration with the “blatant copying” displayed by the sportswear giant.
THIS IS YE driving down the same street Kobe passed on Maybe I feel that Mamba spirit right now to Kasper I’m not standing for this blatant copying no more[.] To all sneaker culture[.] To every ball player rapper or even if you work at the store[.] This is for everyone who wants to express themselves but feel they can’t because they’ll lose their contract or be called crazy[.]
Ye’s mention of the late Kobe Bryant is reminiscent of The Mamba’s early exit from his deal with Adidas back in the 90’s. Kobe signed to adidas in 1996 but parted ways with the German shoemaker shortly after, when the company released the Kobe 2 with little to no success.
Bravery is not being afraid[.] Bravery is overcoming your fear for your truth[.] This Ye with the blue paint on my face[.] These shoes represent the disrespect that people in power have the talent[.] This shoe is a fake Yeezy made by Adidas themselves I’m not talking to DC about this either[.] Kasper come talk to me[.] Happy Monday.
The Adidas adilette 22 is set to release on June 23rd.
