A 5-year-old girl is in critical condition after being involved in a multi-vehicle crash Thursday involving Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid, according to CNN. In a search warrant obtained by CNN affiliate KSHB, police identified Britt Reid as the Dodge Ram truck driver. He told a responding officer that he had consumed “two to three” drinks after the officer observed an odor of alcohol and his eyes being bloodshot red.
In addition, he told the officer that he takes the prescription drug Adderall. The officer initiated a field sobriety test and observed signs of impairment. Britt was taken to a local hospital after complaining of stomach pain. A statement released by the Kansas City Chiefs states, “The organization has been made aware of a multi-vehicle accident involving Outside Linebackers Coach, Britt Reid. We are in the process of gathering information, and we will have no further comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved.”
According to the search warrant, it was uncovered while doing a computer check performed by police that Britt has had “multiple prior DUI contacts.” During the arrest, the police received a judge’s permission to collect blood from Britt to assist with their investigation. Tiffany Verhuls, the child’s aunt, set up a GoFundMe account raised over $200,000. The initial goal was $100k — as of Sunday afternoon. The account was set up to help cover her medical expenses. The 5-year-old is suffering from swelling and bleeding in and around the brain and hasn’t awoken since the crash, according to the GoFundMe page description. Currently, Britt has not been charged with any crimes as an investigation is underway.
