Montel Williams, Vice President Kamala Harris‘s ex-boyfriend, has reacted amid reports alleging he doesn’t support President Biden‘s endorsement of her in the 2024 presidential election.
According to The Daily Beast, Williams initially appeared to react to the news regarding his ex-girlfriend on Monday, July 22. The 68-year-old shared a now-deleted tweet that seemingly urged his “friends in the media” to “think twice about wasting time on a 20+ year old picture.”
At the time, Williams did not explicitly state which image he was referring to.
Shortly after, Williams reposted a tweet from a strategist named Jonathan Franks. The tweet contained a screenshot of an email Franks seemingly received, requesting Williams’ comment on President Biden’s endorsement of Harris. The outlet notes that Franks is Williams’ “media rep.”
“Ask stupid questions, win stupid prizes,” Franks wrote in his tweet. “I’m going to do this to every reporter who asks me this creepy, misogynistic question. I have no obligation to be cordial to reporters asking creepy and inappropriate questions.”
Afterward, Williams reposted an earlier tweet he made, seemingly endorsing Maryland Governor Wes Moore as his preference to receive the Democratic presidential nominee or at least be present on the ballot.
“I’d love to see @iamwesmoore leading the ticket or otherwise on my ballot and I’m ready to campaign. I’ve watched @GovWesMoore lead my home state of Maryland, and I know leadership when I see it,” Williams wrote.
In the hours following, Governor Moore shared his own tweet conveying his endorsement of Harris.
Williams then reposted Moore’s tweet, seemingly in agreeance. However, the talk show host apparently wanted to make sure his sentiment was heard and understood, so he even shared a screenshot of his repost.
“Reminding folks I RT’d this,” he wrote.
Subsequently, Williams appeared to address those who seemingly wondered why he didn’t initially endorse his ex-girlfriend.
“Is anyone surprised I am interested in a politician who also went to the Naval Academy and whose leadership has impressed me?” Williams wrote, referring to Governor Moore’s background.
From there, Williams even retweeted an article published by TMZ alleging he doesn’t endorse Harris.
“Guys, I hate to ruin your day, but you massively misinterpreted my tweet. I will vote for whomever can beat Trump,” he explained.
According to the outlet, Williams previously reflected on his romance with Harris in 2019. At the time, Williams shared a tweet remarking his respect for her and seemingly calling out the public’s interest in her dating history.
“@KamalaHarris and I briefly dated about 20 years ago when we were both single. So what? I have great respect for Sen. Harris. I have to wonder if the same stories about her dating history would have been written if she were a male candidate?” he wrote at the time.
According to HotNewHipHop, not much is known or has been reported about the pair’s former romance. Furthermore, Distractify notes that their most popular outing or public appearance seems to have taken place in May 2001 when they attended the Eighth Annual Race to Erase Multiple Sclerosis alongside Williams’ daughter, Ashley.
