After the success of the original series, “Underground,” John Legend’s Get Lifted Film Company is already in the works for their next series coming to WGN America.
According to Deadline, John Legend alongside his business partners Mike Jackson and Ty Stiklorious, have inked a deal for early development on the Black Wall Street.
Also joining the Get Lifted team as an executive producer is none other than, Tika Sumpter, who is also starring in, “Southside With You,” which is also a product of the film company.
Mike Jackson said, “We’re so excited to continue to grow our relationship with WGN America. Our experience working with them on Underground has been fantastic. Additionally, we’re looking forward to working with our friend Tika Sumpter to help tell this incredible story that many people know nothing about.”
In a brief description of the story’s background, Deadline mentions that the story of the Black Wall Street will focus on the successful middle class of African Americans in Tulsa, OK during the early years of the 20th century. Unfortunately, the story includes the largest mass killing of African Americans in the country’s history.
The show is still in its early stages and may debut sometime in 2018. However fans can expect the return of “Underground” sometime next year.
