John Legend is opening up about how limiting his social media usage is benefiting his mental health, as it was “just a lot.”
The “All of Me” singer opened up during a chat with Yahoo Life, noting that he’s begun to scale back his social media activity. He also spoke on how he’s specifically started to distance himself from X, formerly known as Twitter.
“I used to be on social media a lot more than I am now. I generally post more on Instagram and some on TikTok, but I kind of stopped posting on Twitter.”
We should add that John Legend said X is now “a little too toxic” for his liking. This commentary comes on the heels of Elon Musk‘s unpopular takeover, which prompted an “unprecedented” rise in hate speech on the platform, per the New York Times.
Legend elaborated on how he eventually realized the social media hoopla was “just a lot.”
“After a while, having that much transparency between you and your audience — not just coming from you, but also coming to you — all the incoming [discourse], it was just a lot. After a while, I was just like, ‘You know, I don’t need that.'”
He added, “It’s truly better for my mental health. I just found it better for my mental health to stay away.”
On top of his mental well-being, John Legend also noted that he’s spendin’ some time focusing on his physical health.
“I do some cardio and some weights, nothing too crazy or innovative.”
John Legend’s commentary about stepping back from social media comes about a month and a half after Megan Thee Stallion shared similar statements, as The Shade Room reported.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the “Pressurelicious” rapper said she had to “step back [and] reevaluate” her well-being, and clearing her phone of all social media apps helped with this pursuit. Finding a “balance” between practicing “hustle culture” and self-care has also been crucial.
She added, “I’m making certain adjustments to my routine, and I want to let my Hotties know that it’s acceptable to reset and recharge when necessary.” PERIOD!
