Jodie Turner-Smith is breaking her silence almost five months after filing for divorce from Joshua Jackson. As The Shade Room previously reported, Turner-Smith made the filing on October 2, 2023.
Soon after, Jackson was spotted with fellow actor Lupita Nyong’o on multiple occasions.
According to E! News, Turner-Smith broke her silence on the matter while speaking with U.K. publication The Times for an interview published on Sunday, February 25.
“Sometimes things we really want to work just don’t end up working,” the 37-year-old explained. “And that’s OK. The most important thing is that you choose what’s healthiest for you and your family and definitely your children.”
From there, Turner-Smith went on to speak about staying true and avoiding “invisible scars.”
“There are so many different moments in our life where we look at ourselves and say, ‘Who am I and am I being true to that?’ If the answer is no, then you have to make a move because I believe that there are visible scars from staying in places that are not good for us,” she continued. “And they don’t just affect us, they affect everybody around us.”
The 37-year-old then briefly reflected on her and Jackson’s four-year marriage before sharing her thoughts on what lies ahead.
“I don’t think it’s a failure. We obviously had such a beautiful moment together,” she said. “And now it’s time for a new moment for both of us. And how exciting! The bravest thing in the world is to recognize when something’s not working and to make a move, and I always want to set that kind of example for my daughter.”
Before concluding on the matter, she shared one “big takeaway.”
“The big takeaway is that this is about just as much love and joy as it has always been,” Turner-Smith explained. “This is only about taking a step forward into a better life for everybody involved.”
As The Shade Room previously reported, Turner-Smith made her October 2023 divorce filing in a Los Angeles Court. At the time, it was reportedly asserted that she and Jackson’s separation date was September 13, 2023.
Additionally, the pair share a young daughter named Juno, and it was reported that Turner-Smith requested joint physical and legal custody of the child.
According to PEOPLE, Turner-Smith and Jackson appeared to have a whirlwind romance. The outlet reports they met in 2018 and secretly married in 2019, weeks before Turner-Smith debuted a baby bump.
As The Shade Room previously reported, a few years ago, the actor opened up about the romance with the outlet about the events.
“It was like, I fell in love right before I started this movie that would basically change my life, and then by the time I was putting this movie out, I was pregnant, I was secretly married, and I was trying to have one moment and not let the other moment overshadow it, which is why I tried to keep it secret,” she explained while speaking on the release of the 2019 ‘Queen & Slim.’
According to E! News, Joshua Jackson has yet to break his silence on his and Turner-Smith’s split publicly. Additionally, the actor’s official Instagram account still features photos of him and his estranged wife.
Furthermore, Jackson shared the last photo of him and Turner-Smith on September 28, 2022.
However, since the news of his split from Turner-Smith, Jackson has been spotted with another actor — Lupita Nyong’o. Their first sighting together was at a Janelle Monae concert in October 2023, per The Shade Room.
Then, in December 2023, Jackson and Nyong’o added a bit more fuel to the dating speculation that surrounded them.
