Jemele Hill will now serve as the narrator for LeBron James’ upcoming Showtime documentary “Shut Up and Dribble,” in her first post-ESPN gig. As we previously reported, the title of the project was inspired by Laura Ingraham, who told James and Kevin Durant to “shut up and dribble,” as they expressed their political views.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hill was originally booked to star as an interviewee in the upcoming documentary. However, her beliefs about Donald Trump and his actions have made her the ideal person for the job.
Hill said, “I think LeBron, like a lot of people, has been very frustrated by the behavior of this administration. Black Americans feel very insulted and vulnerable within this time because of who’s in charge.”
Charles Barkley, Isaiah Thomas, and Kevin Durant are just a few of the names expected to appear in the documentary.
Hill agreed that it is unusual for a woman to narrate a sports documentary, telling THR, “Especially, a black woman.”
She added, “Lately LeBron has talked about gender and wanting to uplift and position black women in particular. I get the sense that this is all part of that. He was raised by a black woman, he is married to a black woman and he is raising a black woman (daughter Zhuri, 3). If you look at the societal ladder, black women remain on the lowest rung. He clearly understands that we are facing a unique battle. It means a lot that he understands the intricacies of that.”
“Shut Up and Dribble” will premiere on Showtime in November.
