Rapper Jeezy filed for divorce from his wife of two-and-a-half years, Jeannie Mai, on Sept. 14. Despite the news sweeping the internet, the talk show host remained hush-hush on social media about her estranged marriage. But she broke her silence on Wednesday for the first time since Jeezy filed the court docs.
It’s unclear if Jeannie Mai wrote the handwritten post that was shared on her Instagram feed or whether it’s a social-derived meme. However, her stand-alone photo post depicts a blank notebook with a single quote. Her caption featured a single, black heart emoticon.
“Sometimes, you need to take a break and disconnect to heal,” the photo read with a nearby pen.
As mentioned, Jeezy filed for divorce nearly a month ago, per court documents viewed by PEOPLE. The estranged pair wed in March 2021 and welcomed their daughter Monaco in January 2022, despite Jeannie’s years-long-documented stance against parenthood.
Jeezy submitted the divorce docs in Atlanta, Georgia, citing an “irretrievably broken” marriage with “no hope for reconciliation.” The paperwork also reportedly stated he and Jeannie Mai were “currently living in a bona fide state of separation.” However, no recent reports document how long that’s been the case between the pair.
As for their 1-year-old, Jeezy, named Jay Wayne Jenkins, reportedly hopes to share legal custody. There is no additional information about their co-parenting stance amid the reported separation.
As mentioned, in the last month, Jeannie has largely steered clear of her personal Instagram feed and her supplemental account, Hello Hunnay with Jeannie Mai.
Her most recent post before breaking her silence on Wednesday came on Sept. 13. It featured a carousel of images that show Mai wearing a bold pink, two-piece suit for New York Fashion Week.
Wednesday’s post featured a hidden like count, but messages of support flooded the host’s comment section.
@ksimone wrote, “You don’t owe us anything, not a word, not a video, not a photo/selfie. Nothing! Release that pressure and just live to His expectation… no one else’s! Bless.”
@the.audacity wrote, “Girlllllll he out here doing tours and award shows, STEP OUT, show em, you DAT GIRL.”
@ashfra54 wrote, “People will judge what you got going on, but its between your family and god! We all have a story. I hope the best for you.”
Currently, The Shade Room has no additional information on what incident (s) led to the couple’s marriage on the rocks.
However, it’s worth noting that a week before Jeezy filed, Jeannie Mai shared a post praising her husband’s accomplishment of becoming a “New York Times Best-Selling Author” with his book Adversity for Sale. Daughter Monaco was featured in the sweet Sept. 6 post.
In the caption, she wrote:
“Your story has always been an inspiration to me, but seeing it in print has left me even more in awe of your strength and wisdom. You invited us into the most intimate corners of your life, where pain and triumph coexist. This moment isn’t just a testament to your literary skills baby, but a recognition of your ability to inspire through the power of storytelling. I’m endlessly grateful for your voice in this world. Honored to walk beside you my love.”
The post is still live on Jeannie’s Insta-feed. Jeezy, who reacted to the post with two hearts at the time, has not publicly commented on the divorce filing.
