Jay-Z and Rihanna’s net worths were recently announced on Forbes’ 2024 celebrity billionaire list. This week, the publication ranked the top 14 wealthiest celebs, with half the list featuring Black celebs.
The rich list, released on Tuesday, also highlighted how these celebrities acquired their wealth. Jay and Rih also made an appearance on the highly-anticipated list last year.
Jigga, 54, rolled in at number five with a net worth of $2.5 billion. His wealth reportedly swelled after selling the streaming service Tidal and his investments in Uber and Block among other business ventures.
Jay sold a 50% stake in his champagne brand Armand de Bringnac in 2021 for an estimated $300 million. In addition, the Roc Nation founder sold a majority stake in his liquor label D’Usse to Barcardi last year for an estimated $750 million.
Jay-Z reportedly became the first hip-hop artist to reach billionaire status in 2019.
Rihanna sashayed in at number nine with $1.4 billion coins. Her Savage X and Fenty Beauty brands have been booming and the Caribbean gyal is reaping the benefits. Both companies are billion-dollar brands she co-owns with the luxury goods mega-company LVMH, per Vogue.
The 36-year-old is also bringing in major coins by hitting the stage, despite not releasing an album since ‘Anti’ in 2016. The bad gal reportedly made millions after recently performing at the wedding of the son of India’s richest man.
Additionally, five other Black celebrities and a mixed-race athlete secured a spot on the list.
Legendary NBA champion Michael Jordan was the highest-ranked Black man on the list at number three. His worth is estimated to be $3.2 billion. Media mogul Oprah Winfrey followed with $2.8 billion. Tyler Perry came in at number eight. His fortune is reportedly $1.4 billion.
Lebron James racked in $1.2 million, landing him the number eleven spot. He garnered much of his wealth in real estate. Additionally, he accumulated wealth from his production and entertainment company SpringHill, and business investments. The NBA superstar has stakes in the popular eater, Blaze Pizza.
NBA vet Magic Johnson, 64, followed at spot number twelve.
Biracial golfer Tiger Woods rolled in at number 10. He joins Lebron in an elite club of billionaire athletes who are still active in their sport.
Ye, formerly Kanye West, and music mogul, Sean “P Diddy” Combs, were sacked from this year’s billionaire listing.
Diddy first made the cut in October 2022. His stocks have plummeted amid countless sexual assault and harassment lawsuits. Consequently, Combs reportedly sold his stock in Revolt — a company he founded over a decade ago. Moreover, he said farewell to the liquor brand Diageo, contributing to the drop in his wealth.
Additionally, Ye’s coins declined after his lucrative partnership with Adidas ended. The controversial lyricist publicly made comments widely deemed as anti-Semitic.
Meanwhile, his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian also made the list in slot six, with $1.7 billion in her name. George Lucas ($5.5 billion) and Steven Spielberg ($4.8 billion) are chillin’ at the top of the rich list as one and two, respectively.
Congrats to the melanated money-makers!
