Now that 2020 is officially in full swing, the countdown until Essence’s annual music festival is right around the corner.
As you know each year, Essence takes over New Orleans for their festival and this year will be no different. On Tuesday, the official lineup for this year’s festival was announced and we’re pretty sure fans will be excited to see who will be hitting the stage this year.
Janet Jackson will be returning as a headliner, while Bruno Mars will be headlining for the first time. Meanwhile, legends such as Patti LaBelle is scheduled to tear down the mainstage. Other legends that are scheduled to perform at the Superdome are Raphael Saadiq, Swizz Beatz, many others. Summer Walker and Ari Lennox, will also be on the mainstage as they represent the new generation of R&B.
The Super Lounges will feature the talents of multiple artists such as Jidenna, Saweetie, Rapsody, Tank, Tamia, and many others.
This will be the 26th annual Essence Festival, and this year they are celebrating 50 years since the magazine’s first published issue. This year’s festival will take place from July 1-5.
Last year, Michelle Ebanks, the Chief Executive Officer of Essence Communications talked about the festival celebrating its 25th year and said, “In the years since it [Essence Festival] has set a standard that many other festivals have aspired to, and today, the Essence Festival has grown to represent an annual homecoming for Black artists from across the globe.”
