Jamie Foxx Defends Jimmy Fallon Against Blackface Backlash From Resurfaced SNL Sketch

On Tuesday, Jimmy Fallon issued a public apology for an old SNL clip where he impersonated Chris Rock. The resurfaced sketch caused people on social media to call for his cancelation.

His complexion in the sketch was darker than we all know it to be, and Jimmy quickly addressed the matter with an apology.

As we previously reported he said, “In 2000, while on SNL, I made a terrible decision to do an impersonation of Chris Rock while in blackface. There is no excuse for this. I am very sorry for making this unquestionably offensive decision and thank all of you for holding me accountable.”

On Wednesday, Jamie Foxx came to Jimmy’s defense as he left a comment under E News’ Instagram post about the matter.

He said, “He was doing an impression of Chris Rock. It wasn’t blackface “We comedians, I know it’s a tough time right now. But this one is a stretch. On a show called ‘In Living Color’ we played every race. Let this one go. We got bigger fish to fry … #changecourse.”

In the skit, Jimmy portrayed Chris Rock while he was talking to Darrell Hammond who was portraying TV host Regis Philbin.  NBC previously removed the video from the internet, however, the clips had been circulating on both Twitter and Youtube.

As the clip started to make its rounds, the hashtag #JimmyFallonIsOverParty started to trend in response.
