Fans of Idris Elba have been damn near petitioning to make the handsome actor the first black Bond for a while now, thinking he would be the perfect fit for the role.
The Author of the new Bond novel, Anthony Horrowitz, was doing promo for his new book “Trigger Mortis,” when he shared his opinion on Elba taking the role.
In his interview with the Daily Mail he was asked about what actors could take over the role from the current Bond, Daniel Craig.
Well, he ruffled some feathers to say the least when he said “For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a color issue. I think he is probably a bit too ‘street’ for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah.”
He also added that there were “other black actors who would do it better,” like Adrian Lester, last seen on American television in “Red Band Society.”
His response caused somewhat of an uproar when it hit the net causing him to issue an apology via his Twitter :
I’m sure Horowitz will be a lot more careful with his words next time!

Former Bond Pierce Brosnan was literally a STREET performer before he became an actor. But Elba too street…ok. Is “street” the new Black now?
