It’s been over six months since Jaidyn Alexis popped out with new music. Now, she’s addressing any “one-hit wonder” comments creeping up on the internet!
On June 23, she took to X (formerly Twitter), seemingly quoting feedback she’s received. “Jaidyn, they wanna hear u rap again,” she shared. The following day, she provided an update about her time away from the booth.
“Did music for 1 year and I’m a one-hit wonder can u give me a chance [laughing emoticon] damn,” she posted on X.
Aside from letting the naysayers know she’s planning a comeback, Jaidyn also spoke on the first anniversary of her rap debut on X.
For context, June 23, 2023, was the first time Jaidyn Alexis gagged the innanet with “Stewie,” poking fun at the comparisons she’s gotten to the ‘Family Guy’ character.
“I got a big head, and yes, daddy, I give big head,” she raps on the intro, adding, “Two kids, got me that new Benz if I’m Stewie, h*e you stupid.”
As of Wednesday (June 26), the music video on YouTube has over 1.5 million views. Speaking to her 376,000+ followers on her one-year anniversary, she shared her gratitude for the fans’ ongoing support.
“A year ago, I dropped my first song, thank u all for seeing the vision and supporting,” she wrote.
With Blueface on the beat (and often on the ad-libs and lyrics), Jaidyn Alexis increased her rap popularity. She went on to release three additional songs and accompanying music videos. A month after ‘Stewie,’ she released ‘Workout’ on July 24. About six weeks later, on September 9, she dropped ‘Post Opp,’ featuring Blueface.
But she really struck TikTok gold and replay value when she released ‘Barbie’ on October 2. In less than a year, the music video has collected 12.1 million views, an incredible feat for a budding artist with no EP or album.
That track’s popularity ultimately led her to a meeting with Columbia Records two weeks after its release. Then, on October 24, she revealed that the record label signed her. Details of the contract remained sealed. However, it’s unclear if Jaidyn Alexis is still an artist on their roster at this time, given that she doesn’t appear on their “Artists” webpage.
Amid the success of ‘Barbie’ and her other tracks, Jaidyn Alexis took her music on the road with club and event appearances, including a controversial high school show in November.
In January, she and Blueface released a remix and video for ‘Barbie,’ which collected about half the views as the original. Ten days after the release, Blueface turned himself into authorities to serve a sentence for violating his probation terms.
Since then, Jaidyn Alexis’ focus has seemed to shift to her dating life and motherhood. Days after Blueface was put behind bars, she publicly locked lips with women’s basketball player Josselyn Morris. By the end of February, they had called it quits. That happened amid Jaidyn visiting her children’s father in jail and advocating for his freedom.
Most recently, Jaidyn celebrated their son’s 7th birthday in May and made sure Blue was a part of the festivities with cutouts of his face at the party. The ‘Th*tiana’ rapper is expected home next month.
Meanwhile, it looks like his on-and-off again girlfriend, Chrisean Rock, won’t be releasing any music of her own soon, given that she’s fighting charges in California and Oklahoma behind bars.
