On the latest episode of Jada Pinkett Smith’s Facebook series, “Red Table Talk,” she sat down with her mother and children to speak about different parenting styles.
During the discussion, Jaden Smith and Willow Smith shared what it was like growing up in one of Hollywood’s most well-known families. During the discussion, Jada revisited the time she allowed Jaden to move out at the age of 15.
She said, “One thing that I’ve learned is that every child needs something different. At 15 years old, Jaden, and I remember this day specifically, it’s probably one of the most heartbreaking moments of my life.”
She continued, “You got to a point where you told me straight up, you were like, ‘Mom, I have to leave here to live my life.’ I remember thinking to myself, as devastated as I was, I was like, ‘He’s right. The time is now. He’s 15. It’s time for him to leave the house.’”
Jada went on to say that she understood that their Hollywood lifestyle can sometimes be viewed as being in a bubble, so she understood Jaden wanting his freedom.
Jaden, who is now 19 said, “It just makes you appreciate being home, being with your parents, spending quality time with your family,” he said about the experience. “You get out into the world and you just understand things.”
