As the world continues to mourn the legendary Kobe Bryant (along with Gigi Bryant and the seven others who perished in that tragic helicopter crash), we can expect a host of tributes in the victims’ honor in the coming weeks.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell already confirmed that Kobe Bryant will be honored this Sunday during Super Bowl LIV and now it appears that Jennifer Lopez and Shakira will pay tribute to Kobe during the Pepsi Super Bowl LIV Halftime Show performance, according to CNN.
“We’ll all be remembering Kobe on Sunday and celebrating life and diversity in this country,” Shakira said. “I’m sure he’d be very proud to see the message we are trying to convey on stage that day.”
Although J. Lo didn’t want to give away too much on the grand spectacle, she said the show will be “packed.”
“When we did the first run-through, Shakira was like, ‘That was great.’ It’s different what we do,” J. Lo said about their individual styles. “It’s very Shakira and very Jennifer.”
Shakira added that she feels her and J. Lo compliment each other and Jenny believes two women leading the show is “empowering.”
“Two Latinas doing this in this country at this time is very empowering for us,” she explained.
J. Lo declined to comment on speculation she would be bringing her two kids on stage during the performance.
There were a few awkward moments during Thursday’s press conference, like when James Corden’s father (for reasons yet unclear) got up to play “Jenny from the Block” on his saxophone and asked J. Lo to join in.
“You’re in the wrong key,”she told him.
