#JCole recently sat down with #AngieMartinez where he addressed rumors that he wrote “False Prophets” about #KanyeWest. If you recall, Ye was hospitalized back in November 2016 following a reported mental breakdown and Cole’s song was released just days later.
Speaking with Angie, Cole says that the song was written months before Kanye’s breakdown and doesn’t like that the media only began to speak about mental health after Kanye’s hospitalization.
“When I wrote that song it was like, January of that year. So, it’s not like I was poking fun” Cole said. “I wrote that song based off of observations when nobody wasn’t saying sh*t about mental health. Like, don’t have a mental health conversation AFTER somebody checks themselves into a hospital.”
Later on, J. Cole opened up about feeling that Ye was being insincere in sharing a screenshot of a conversation they had during the rapper’s more recent round of social media uprisings.
“Nah, he called me, but I would’ve never posted that or tell him to post that” Cole tells Angie. “That made me feel a certain type of way. I told him that. He apologized, for the record. I told him that it felt like you just used my name in that very quick conversation for social media and to keep your thing going or whatever you were doing. It felt like it wasn’t sincere because of that.”
