Iyanla Vanzant shared that her youngest daughter, Nisa Vanzant, recently passed away — leaving the 69-year-old life coach in a state of mourning.
The Iyanla: Fix My Life star shared the devastating news on Sunday (Jul. 30) via Instagram.
Her upload consisted of neutral colors and featured a solemn candle. The text at the top of the post lists Nisa’s name, while her life span is incorporated just below.
While Nisa’s exact date of birth is unclear, the years line up with her being 48 or 49 years old.
Beneath this upload, Iyanla Vanzant’s caption read, “It is with great sorrow that we announce the transition of Nisa Vanzant the youngest daughter of our Beloved Iyanla Vanzant.”
After noting that the family was “asking [fans for] prayers,” the caption wrapped up with Iyanla and her loved ones asking others to respect their privacy as they grieve.
We should also add that Iyanla’s last-living (and oldest) child — Damon Vanzant — shared Iyanla’s post through his Instagram Story.
This ordeal comes 20 years after Iyanla lost her second-born child, Gemmia Vanzant.
According to PEOPLE, Gemmia passed away on Christmas Day 2003 after succumbing to colon cancer. She was 32 years old.
Back in autumn 2021, Iyanla spoke about how the loss changed her life during a sit-down on Making Space with Hoda Kotb.
“It changes who you are as a woman. It changed who I was as a woman, first for the worse, and then for the better.”
She added, “God must’ve really, really trusted me to give me a soul to bring into life, and to trust me with the courage to send her out.”
We send our condolences to Iyanla and Damon Vanzant, as well as the rest of Nisa’s loved ones, during this time.
