Let’s get it! Summer is officially here, thanks to former President Barack Obama. Our forever President just dropped his annual summer playlist, and it’s full of bops! He shared the 38 song playlist on his social media platforms which featured Jazmine Sullivan, Migos, Lil Baby, H.E.R, and others. Barack penned a nice message on Instagram to make the announcement. “With so many folks getting together with family and friends, there’s a lot to celebrate this summer. I put together a playlist of some of the songs I’ve been listening to lately,” he wrote. ”It’s a mix of old and new, household names and emerging artists, and a whole lot in between.”
Jazmine Sullivan’s song, ‘Pick up your feelings,’ was the first on the playlist, so she immediately shared her excitement about the news on Instagram. Jazmine reposted the playlist thanking him. The Philly native wrote, “Chowd. I shouted & threw my wig. Thank you, @barackobama.”
Cardi B was also happy to see her husband Offset’s group, Migos, on the list. She tweeted, “I can really imagine Barack taking important calls like, “Ain’t nothin but a lil bit of straightenin’.” Over 10k Roommates commented on the post, including Quavo, who declared that ‘Straightenin’ was the song of the summer.
In the past, songs featured on Barack’s playlist have had a significant increase in sales. According to Nielsen Music, after the list was released on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019, most of the 44 songs surged in sales. Terence Trent D’Arby’s came out on top with sales! His 1987 song, ‘Who’s Loving You’ received the biggest percentage increase in streams from the playlist. Esperanza Spalding’s song, ‘Espera,’ had the second-largest streaming gain.
Roommates, do you think the playlist will have the same streaming increase this year?
