Roommates, although it’s still several months away, it looks like the forthcoming fifth season of the HBO series “Insecure” is officially underway, according to Issa Rae. Issa recently took to social media to tease fans with an initial glimpse at the beginnings of season five courtesy of a photo of the fresh script.
Issa Rae and the rest of the cast of “Insecure” is currently riding high following the show’s record eight Emmy nominations at this year’s ceremony, which takes place on September 20th. Fortunately, that good vibe also translates to the new season of the show, which has finally gone back into production—and the process is likely very different this time around due to COVID-19.
Issa posted a photo to Instagram of the “Insecure” script for the first episode of season five along with the caption, “Season 5 Table Read. Different. #insecurehbo.”
In a recent interview, Yvonne Orji, who plays Molly on the show, explained what fans can expect from the Issa/Molly friendship following their ongoing drama last season:
“I feel our relationship is ‘iron sharpens iron’ — I feel like we’re sharpening each other as friends and even frenemies. We’ve been circling around each other in just getting familiar with the old way of how we used to be. We’re all growing. And change is hard. I would like to see Molly happy, in general, just happy. In love and life, at work, I want her happy. Is that too much to ask?”
Elsewhere, Issa Rae confirmed that COVID-19 is impacting filming the new season, saying “It looks hopefully filming without masks. It looks like hopefully figuring out how to shoot this season. Can’t talk about Molly & Issa 3.0 when this virus is still out there, wear your mask, people please — and vote.”
