Whew! Issa Rae has just added an nine-figure deal to her already promising media career, according to Variety. The publication reports that Issa has just signed a five-year overall deal with WarnerMedia, which gives HBO, HBO Max and Warner Bros. television exclusive rights to Issa’s work in television. Issa’s deal also reportedly includes a first-look film deal.
Sources tell Variety that the new deal is valued at a whopping $40 million over five years, and Chief Content Officer of HBO and HBO Max Casey Bloys says Issa is on the top of the platform’s talent list.
“She’s obviously very talented and she’s very prolific,” he says. “It’s been very good to work with Issa personally, but also as a company, because she’s seeded a lot of talent elsewhere.”
As we previously reported, Issa signed a two-year overall deal with HBO in 2016 and renewed that deal for three more years in 2018. Issa spoke with Variety, saying she’s excited to continue working with HBO.
“It’s really exciting to have that flexibility and just depend the relationship that we already have,” she said. “Hoorae already had at least 15 projects in various staged of development with them, so we’d been working with them on the drama side, the unscripted side, and the documentaries side for a couple years now.”
Following the success of her hit show Insecure, Issa Rae has continued to branch off and build an empire for herself! She has starred in many films since, and now has her own show on Apple Music called Issa Raedio. She has also announced that she is working on a new show called Rap Sh*t, which will be co-executive produced by the City Girls.
What can’t Issa Rae do? We aren’t too sure. Are y’all ready for some more Issa productions, Roomies? Let us know in the comments!
