#Roommates, congratulations are order for some of our favorite ladies who always represent true #BlackGirlMagic, as it has just been announced that Issa Rae, LaLa Anthony, Thembi Banks and TSR’s own Angelica Nwandu have all teamed up for a forthcoming new film project! “Juju” is a horror-comedy set to be produced by Issa and LaLa, with Angie writing the script and Thembi directing her first feature film.
@Deadline reports, the always-busy Issa Rae and always-booked LaLa Anthony are teaming up to make audiences laugh and scare them to death courtesy of producing their upcoming film project, “Juju” from Universal Pictures. What’s even better, is that the film will be written based on an original concept Angelica Nwandu, the esteemed founder of The Shade Room, who is also a Sundance fellow. The multi-platform maverick Nwandu, previously wrote the drama “Night Comes On” that won the NEXT Innovator Award at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival.
“Juju” will be the studio feature directorial debut for Thembi Banks, who has been a director on Issa Rae’s “Insecure” and also a Sundance alum herself. Deniese Davis, a longtime partner of Issa will serve alongside her and LaLa as a producer with HooRae’s SVP Development Sara Rastogi overseeing for the busy banner. Universal’s Senior EVP Production Erik Baiers will be the studio’s point person on the genre hybrid project.
Since the film is still in its very early stages, further details including casting and plot specifics are currently unknown, but given the talent involved, audiences should definitely have something to look forward to when it premieres.
Congrats ladies, we can’t wait to check it out!
