Roommates Issa Rae just announced via Twitter that she is teaming up with her Hoorae Productions writer Syreeta Singleton and the City Girls for an eight-episode series comedy named ‘Rap S**T.’ The show will air on HBO Max and has been in development since 2019. Rap S**t will follow two estranged high school friends from Miami who reunite to form a rap group, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Issa tweeted,” Wrote a new show for @HBOMax! One of my favorite writers, the hilarious @reetafajita, is show running, and my favorite group, CITY GIRLS, are co-EPs! Miami, here we come! #RapS**t.” The City Girls also shared the news on their Instagram by sharing Issa’s tweet with the caption, “We can’t wait for y’all to see what we’ve been working on. Thank you so much @issarae @reetafajita.” JT tweeted from her personal account, thanking Issa for the opportunity.
Issa and Syreeta will executive produce the show alongside HOORAE’s Montrel McKay, who worked on ‘A Black Lady Sketch Show,’ Jonathan Berry from “Insecure’ and 3 Arts’ Dave Becky from ‘Russian Doll.’ The City Girls will serve as co-executive producers alongside Kevin “Coach K” Lee and Pierre “P” Thomas of Quality Control Films, as well as Sara Rastogi of Hoorae. Quality Control Records have been keeping their artists booked and busy through their film company. We recently reported that Lil Yachty is also working on developing an action heist comedy based on the classic game ‘Uno” with Mattel Films. Alongside Yachty, Mattel Films will produce the movie with Quality Control’s Kevin “Coach K” Lee, Pierre “P” Thomas, and Brian Sher of Quality Films. Robbie Brenner will serve as executive producer, and Kevin McKeon will be supporting as the supervising producer as well as lead the project for Mattel Films.
Rap S**T casting is reportedly underway, and the show’s production is scheduled to begin this summer! Roomies, y’all here for this?!
