International Olympic Committee Member Says The 2020 Olympic Games In Tokyo Will Be Postponed Due To The Coronavirus (Update)

Many countries have been urging the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to postpone this year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo as the coronavirus continues to spread, and it looks like they have officially gotten their wish.

According to USA Today, Veteran International Olympic Committee member Dick Pound announced the news Monday afternoon.

He said, “On the basis of the information the IOC has, the postponement has been decided. The parameters going forward have not been determined, but the Games are not going to start on July 24, that much I know.”

Pound added that he believes that the IOC will announce their next steps soon. “It will come in stages. We will postpone this and begin to deal with all the ramifications of moving this, which are immense,” he said.

As we previously reported, late Sunday, Canada announced that they would not send their athletes to the games if it wasn’t postponed by a year. The IOC would announce their decision about the games within the next four weeks.

ICO spokesperson Mark Adams added, “Well, as we announced yesterday, we are looking at scenarios.”

By Monday, the German Olympic Committee had become yet another country that had pushed for the postponement of the games. As we mentioned before, Slovenia, Norway, and Brazil urger the IOC to postpone the games for their athlete’s safety.

Roommates, what are your thoughts?
