Indianapolis Police Say Man Fatally Shot By Officer Had A Weapon At The Time Of Shooting

On Wednesday, an officer-involved shooting occurred in Indianapolis, resulting in a Black man, Sean Reed-also a military veteran-being fatally shot.

According to @wishtv8, “Shots were fired. It is believed at this time that shots were fired by both the officer & the suspect,” Bailey said. It was also stated that a gun not belonging to the officer was found at the scene.

Bailey also stated that the deceased man failed to stop during an attempted traffic stop.

“The officer always has discretion whether or not he’s going to address the driving behavior or not, but the driving behavior was such that the officer felt it needed to be addressed,” Bailey said. “Attempted to make a traffic stop, the person driving the vehicle didn’t stop, and that’s what started the chase.”

Protests went on well into the night, and Jazmine Reed, a woman identifying herself as Sean’s sister, also told WISH:

“I feel like to lose a life, especially at a young age, there’s never going to be justice,” she said. “Cause he’s gone. There’s never justice for that. Even if somebody was to get time or whatever for it, it’s never going to be justice because he’s never coming back.” She continued, “I shouldn’t have to bury my little brother.”

As previously reported, the incident was streamed on Facebook Live and was shared by the man who was fatally shot, Sean “DaDon” Reed. In that same video, an unidentified man can be heard saying, “It’s going to be a closed casket, homie.” This is after shots were fired, and the phone is seemingly on the ground.

The department is aware of the Facebook video and will use it as evidence, according Fox 59. The officer who was involved in the shooting is uninjured and has been placed on leave pending the results of the investigation.
