India Arie is clearing the air following her drama with Spotify and Joe Rogan over his use of the N-word. India shared a lengthy video on ‘the gram addressing trolls and making it clear her comments had to do with her integrity. While seated the “I Am Not My Hair” singer explained, “I want to clear some things up. This conversation about Spotify, Joe Rogan, me, it’s not about Spotify or Joe Rogan. It’s about my integrity. It’s about being who I am inside, aligning with who I am outside.”
India took a moment to address trolls stating that she won’t allow anyone to belittle her. “I’m not trying to attack anyone, what I’m doing is standing up for myself. What I think is really interesting is how violently some of these trolls are responding to a person just standing up for themselves,” said India. As the over six-minute video continued she made a few points doubling down on her claims that the reasoning she spoke out was about censorship, curation, and that she doesn’t believe in cancel culture.
“What I know is that people garner love or hate based on how they act. No one is universally loved or hated. Joe Rogan can leave Spotify today and someone else would want him,” she explained. While staying on topic, she said her comments weren’t about cancel culture but more so about curating a space.
The conversation continued focusing on Joe as India reiterated that she never said the comedian was racist after he issued an apology for using the N-word, but felt his apology was disingenuous. If you recall earlier today during an interview with Don Lemon on CNN, India called Joe insensitive. Roommates what do you think about India’s latest comments?
