Last week, we reported on the death of 15- year-old Quawan Charles aka Bobby. Bobby was last seen when he left home on October 30th with a friend and his friend’s mother without his parents’ permission. Three days later, he was found dead. His parents were desperately seeking answers after he was found dead in an area of a creek in Loreauville, LA.
Bobby’s family did an independent autopsy following the Baldwin Police Department’s initial autopsy. The family’s independent autopsy found that Bobby likely drowned, although the family believes otherwise after photos of Bobby’s disfigured body surfaced on social media. Many compared the picture to the lynching death of Emmett Till.
Unfortunately, the autopsy does suggest Baldwin Police findings, which were released by a coroner’s office, were core, according to WAFB9 these findings are being treated as preliminary, and an official cause of death could take weeks to determine, though his death is still being investigated as a homicide, investigators say.
The Baldwin Police Department is expected to release an update about its role in the case on Monday. They have received backlash for failing to issue an Amber Alert once Bobby’s parents alerted them that he was missing. The department has received threats since the widespread attention of Bobby’s case.
Baldwin Mayor Abel “Phil” Prejean spoke out about the case Monday. He said he was concerned that social media users were spreading “far more conjecture than truth” about the subject by raising and repeating certain claims.
Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Deputies reported on Nov. 14th that surveillance video shows that Bobby was alone around the time of his death. In a statement issued on behalf of Sheriff Tommy Romero, he confirmed Bobby’s death is currently being investigated as a homicide.
