Now, Iman feels that Hakeem Lyon is an extension of himself, because they both share the same hairstyle…but many young black men are capable of rocking the high-top hairstyle.* Shumpert also brings to our attention that the character Tiana Brown and Teyana Taylor bare strikingly similar monikers as well as the same hairstyle.**
If it is a coincidence that both of the ladies kind of have the same hairstyle, Shumpert isn’t buying it! Check out what he had to say about the situation to Chris Haynes of Northeast Ohio Media group:
“They’re using my girl’s character, her style, her look and she’s not getting anything for it. They didn’t even change her name. They could have at least let my girl audition for the part instead of stealing her character completely.
And come on man, they’re really using a guy with a flat top like me. Come on. That’s ridiculous. They never called us. We were blindsided. We found out by our family and fans when the show aired.
I don’t see how they can deny it. Everybody knows.”
There are too many people in the world and not enough individuality to nit pick at fictional characters on television and accuse the writers of a tv show of basing their characters on you. People that don’t watch basketball don’t know who you are and people who have never seen My Super Sweet 16 don’t know who Teyana is. By all means, get this publicity and get your coin, but there is no story here. He says that he doesn’t even watch the show!
Besides, Rihanna didn’t go on a rant when Tiana Brown from Empire was shooting her Bad Girl video! The dancing in the sand with shirtless men was very similar to her video for Where Have You Been… G’Bye!
