Authorities have reportedly identified the person who died in a shooting incident at a Donald Trump campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, July 13.
PEOPLE reports that Corey Comperatore was named as the individual who tragically lost his life at Donald Trump’s Pennsylvania rally on Saturday.
The outlet revealed that during a press conference covered by CNN, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro stated that Corey Comperatore “died trying to protect his family.”
Governor Shapiro also mentioned that Comperatore shielded his family from gunfire by reportedly diving on top of them.
Per TSR, Governor Shapiro spoke with Corey’s wife and two daughters after the incident, indicating that he deeply loved his family and was an avid Trump supporter.
“Corey was a girl-dad. Corey was a firefighter. Corey went to church every Sunday. He was so excited last night to be there with Trump and the community.”
According to PEOPLE, Corey’s sister, Dawn Comperatore Schafer, posted on Facebook about his tragic passing.
“The PA Trump Rally claimed the life of my brother, Corey Comperatore. The hatred for one man took the life of the one man we loved the most. He was a hero that shielded his daughters. His wife and girls just lived through the unthinkable and unimaginable,” Dawn wrote.
Schafer continued to ask for prayers for her family.
“My baby brother just turned 50 and had so much life left to experience,” she added. “Hatred has no limits and love has no bounds. Pray for my sister-in-law, nieces, my mother, sister, me and his nieces and nephews as this feels like a terrible nightmare but we know it is our painful reality,” Dawn continued.
