Ice Spice has two major surprises for her fans and one of them includes her first album ‘Y2K!’
On Wednesday, (June 5) Ice hopped on Instagram Live to share some very exciting news with her supporters.
The Bronx star announced the release date for her highly-anticipated debut album. As if that wasn’t enough to get her “Munchkins” hype, she also revealed that she will be heading out on her first headlining world tour. Ice will be hitting the road with special guest, Cash Cobain and longtime producer RIOTUSA. The trek kicks off on July 4th and will hit places across Europe before stopping in cities such as Washington, D.C., Miami, Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles, and, of course, New York City.
As for her album, the project officially drops on Friday, July 26th. According to The Source, Ice’s ‘Y2K’ album is a nod to her January 1, 2000 birthday. The LP will reportedly include her newly released single, ‘Gimmie The Light.’
Although Ice’s followers were excited about her announcements, many were shocked by the album cover for the ‘Y2K’ LP. The cover art sees the ‘In Ha Mood’ artist looking over her shoulder and posing in front of a concrete wall. Ice replicated a New York City subway, which featured the letters “I-C-E” depicted as train lines. However, what truly left fans confused was the trash can that included neon pink and green graffiti spelling out the ‘Y2K’ album title.
Several social media users immediately flooded her comments, asking why she chose to display the name of her new project on a trash can. Despite their feelings, several other users said they are patiently waiting on the new music.
Instagram user @taetroupe wrote, “Why the title on the trash can.”
Instagram user @_kyranroberts wrote, “Idk about everyone else but I like this cover.”
While Instagram user @wisgaming1 wrote, “Bro I swear if you gonna talk about poop or diaper I’m out.”
Instagram user @rayywrightt wrote, “IM READY BOO.”
Then Instagram user @zarmeon wrote, “Why would you put the album name on the trash can you already know what they gonna say now.”
Instagram user @ratedastro wrote, “We are so seated!”
Lastly, Instagram user @sophialfa wrote, “Who’s ready for the same 15 songs.”
Ice Spice initially teased her ‘Y2K’ album back in November. The Grammy-nominated rapper dropped hints by showing off a lower back tattoo through an Instagram photo. She captioned the pic, “Y2K ?/?/24.”
According to PEOPLE, during her January appearance on TODAY, Ice confirmed that she would release an album this year. She did not elaborate on the details, however she did reveal that the record would include some collaborations.
“I have a crazy collaboration that just got locked in, like, two days ago,” Ice said.
