House Passes The Dream And Promise Act Providing Path To Citizenship For ‘Dreamers’

Roomies, it has been announced that “The Dream and Promise Act” was passed by the House in a 228-197 vote, according to ABC News. This bill will provide a path to citizenship for young undocumented migrants known as “Dreamers”—as well as other individuals who are currently living in the U.S. with temporary protected status. This bill will support many who were brought into the United States as children. The measure, and along with another bill, will provide legal status to undocumented farmworkers as well. This bill was passed by Democrats in the last session of Congress but stalled in a GOP-controlled Senate.

The report stated that nine Republicans voted along with Democrats to pass the measure that would impact roughly 3.4 million people. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi let off a series of tweets celebrating the good news. She tweeted, “America’s Dreamers, TPS, & DED recipients are essential members of our communities. Today, @HouseDemocrats voted to honor their contributions to our country and their pursuit of the American Dream by passing the Dream and Promise Act. #HomeIsHere”

Nancy continued, “Throughout the pandemic, farmworkers risked their lives to feed America. Today’s passage of the Farm Workforce Modernization Act honors their labor and is a testament to the truth that immigrants are the constant reinvigoration of our nation. #HomeIsHere”

Several Roommates were elated about the good news. One commented, “The backbone of many countries, the people they don’t want to acknowledge.” Another commented, sharing her own testimony about coming to the U.S. at a young age, commenting, “I came here when I was 3 years old. This has always been my dream!!!! I thought I would never be able to achieve.”
