#Roommates, if you were one of the millions of fans who got excited when Hilary Duff initially announced that a reboot of her popular Disney series “Lizzie McGuire” was in the works…get ready for some bad news. Hilary just confirmed on social media, that despite an updated version of “Lizzie McGuire” set to air on streaming service Disney+, that is no longer the case.
As reported by @ENews, Hilary Duff just took a little magic away from Christmas, as her fans are incredibly disappointed that her classic Disney series “Lizzie McGuire” will not be moving forward with a reboot that was initially announced back in October 2019. Hilary took to Instagram and posted a very lengthy explanation to address what happened.
She wrote the following:
“I’ve been so honored to have the character of Lizzie in my life. She has made such a lasting impact on many, including myself. To see the fans’ loyalty and love for her, to this day, means so much to me. I know the efforts and conversations have been everything trying to make a reboot work, but sadly [and] despite everyone’s best efforts, it isn’t going to happen. I want any reboot of “Lizzie” to be honest and authentic to who Lizzie would be today. It’s what the character deserves. We can all take a moment to mourn the amazing woman she would have been and the adventures we would have taken with her. I’m very sad, but I promise everyone tried their best and the stars just didn’t align. Hey now, this is what 2020’s made of.”
Throughout the last few months, things appeared to gradually unravel with the reboot. Original series creator Terri Minsky left the project due to creative differences at the beginning of January. Then in March, Hilary publicly pleaded with Disney+ to move the show to Hulu, writing, “I’d be doing a disservice to everyone by limiting the realities of a 30-year-old’s journey to live under the ceiling of a PG rating.”
The “Lizzie McGuire” reboot would have had Lizzie, now 30, living life as an adult in New York City. Additionally, Hallie Todd, Robert Carradine, Jake Thomas and Adam Goldberg were all set to reprise their roles from the original series.
