Say it isn’t so! Roommates after one season, HBO has decided not to bring back ‘Lovecraft Country.’ If you’re a fan of the show like I am, I know you’re upset! ‘Lovecraft Country’ was a unique show that blended; horror, fictional period drama, accurate historical figures, fantasy, sci-fi, and social commentary. Since its debut last August, viewers fell in love with characters Atticus Freeman and Letitia “Leti” Dandridge, played by Jonathan Majors & Jurnee Smollett.
Viewers have anticipated the upcoming second season, but it looks like we will no longer have that option. According to Deadline, HBO released a statement explaining the show’s cancelation. “We will not be moving forward with the second season of Lovecraft Country,” HBO said. “We are grateful for the dedication and artistry of the gifted cast and crew and to Misha Green, who crafted this groundbreaking series. And to the fans, thank you for joining us on this journey.”
Fans of the show were so upset that ‘Lovecraft Country’ began trending on Twitter. Chloe Bailey tweeted out expressing her sadness about the news, “I’m really sad about ‘Lovecraft Country.” That was my favorite show.” Another user tweeted, “I lost ‘Pose,’ ‘Insecure,” and ‘Lovecraft Country’ in under six months. This ain’t right.”
Jonathan and Jurnee haven’t responded to the news about the show’s cancellation, but the show’s creator Misha Green took the time to share a tweet and respond to fans. While sharing a map of the United States, she tweeted, “A taste of the Season 2 Bible. I wish we could have brought you #LovecraftCountry: Supremacy. Thank you to everyone who watched and engaged. #noconfederate.” Over 6 thousand Twitter users retweeted Misha’s post and continued to sound off about how much the show is needed.
Roommates, do yall think another network will pick up the show?
