Convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein has reportedly tested positive for the coronavirus while he is serving his time behind bars.
According to the Niagara Gazette, officials from the state prison system reportedly confirmed the news. Weinstein, who recently turned 68, is being isolated at Wende Correctional Facility in Western New York. He is reportedly one of two inmates that have tested positive for the virus.
Officials reportedly believe that he was positive with the virus when he entered the state prison system last Wednesday from Rikers Island.
The officials that confirmed his status for the virus reportedly “spoke on the condition of anonymity,” acknowledging they are not “authorized by the corrections agency to publicly comment on the situation.”
Michael Powers, the president of the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA), also declined to comment on Weinstein’s status due to the inmate’s health record due to privacy rules.
As we previously reported, earlier this month, Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison after he was found guilty for criminal sexual in the first degree and rape in the third degree.
Prior to him starting his sentence, Weinstein experienced a few health issues that landed him in the hospital. When he was first found guilty, he was taken to the hospital for chest pains heart palpitations. He later underwent heart surgery before being transferred to Rikers Island.
After being sentenced to 23 years, he returned to Bellevue Hospital as he complained about having chest pains once again.
Roommates, what are your thoughts?
