Halle Bailey has clapped back at a social media user who accused her of “gaslighting” her fans for initially hiding her pregnancy.
The recent announcement that Bailey had welcomed a baby boy named Halo with rapper DDG became a trending topic on social media.
Fans had been speculating whether the Little Mermaid star was preggers long before she shared the news.
Photos had surfaced of Bailey with a noticeable bump leading up to her baby’s arrival.
Not to mention, on a handful of occasions, fans believed they had spotted clear signs the singer was pregnant thanks to DDG’s Snapchat page.
DDG, who frequently documents his life on the social app, had posted a string of vacation videos last month, where Bailey appeared to have a bun in the oven.
But the signs weren’t obvious. In one video, fans were convinced they saw Bailey’s baby bump through the reflection of DDG’s sunglasses.
It seemed apparent to fans that even if Bailey was pregnant, she did not want to disclose the news until she was ready.
Questions and rumors came like waves, but the couple remained unfazed by dodging every question until they deemed the time was right.
And on Sunday (January 28), the ‘Do It’ star responded to one particular fan who felt she had been “gaslighting” her fans throughout her pregnancy.
“I don’t think people are mad she hid her pregnancy,” the user @EchoDoesRadio wrote in response to a video tweet.
The tweet she was replying to showed a heavily pregnant Bailey at a photoshoot.
The actual photo she posted from the shoot, however, didn’t include her baby bump, indicating there was some editing involved to hide her pregnancy.
The X user continued, “People are more so annoyed that she went out of her way to lie and gaslight about it.”
“Then, she shaded people and called them desperate. Now, she wants those same “desperate” people to know every little detail..”
Soon after coming across the tweet, Bailey didn’t hesitate to respond in a rather sweet clapback.
“I never lied or even said anything about it, honey; making a joke about my nose was the farthest I went. I’ll never understand why you are mad I protected my own peace, wouldn’t you do the same? And I’m going to share my pics now if I want to because my son is here safely; if you don’t want to see it, keep scrolling, baby, [laugh out loud]. God bless you!”
Post-birth, Bailey has been much more open about her journey, having shared sentimental moments during those nine months.
She’s even been reminiscing about the lengths she went to keep her pregnancy hidden, leaving some social media users displeased.
After she shared her thoughts on the matter, some fans insisted that she had kept them in the dark about her journey, feeling slighted, while others supported her right to privacy.
Whatever the case, Bailey chose to handle her pregnancy the way she saw fit, and she doesn’t understand why people feel so enraged by her choice.
