Gunna has made his return to music following his acceptance of a plea deal in the YSL RICO trial. As The Shade Room previously reported, the rapper has been accused of “snitching” against his fellow codefendants. This sentiment became public after his 5-year sentence was reduced to one year, and he was released from Fulton County jail on December 14.
Additionally, Gunna has been ostracized by his fellow rap peers, including Lil Durk.
On Friday, the rapper released his first song and music video since being released from Fulton County jail in December. The song is titled “bread & butter,” and has garnered over 1.3 million views since its release.
As the music video begins, news snippets play from the rapper’s previous case. He then emerges from the shadows of a mansion set in Hollywood, California.
As the rap begins, Gunna references his time in jail and explains that he found out who his “real partners” are.
“I had been down bad inside a dark tunnel, yeah
Fuck them boys, I found out who my real partners
And who was only with me ’cause I had dollars”
Additionally, he seems to reference an undisclosed critic being in “business with a rat.”
“Peepin’ shit, I’m seein’ niggas fall back
You bitch-ass niggas got me as the topic of the chat
You switched on me when you know you in business with a rat
And the boy that’s like your brother, and nobody speak on that”
As the rap continues, the “Drip Too Hard” rapper defends that he’s never snitched.
“Never gave no statement or agreed to take no stand on ’em
On whatever you niggas on, then trust me, I’ma stand on it”
Additionally, he addresses the “sneaky” behavior of lawyers and the DA involved in the YSL RICO case.
“Lawyers and the DA did some sneaky shit, I fell for it
On my Ps and Qs because, this time, I be prepared for it, yeah”
As The Shade Room previously reported, Lil Durk most recently shared that he believed Gunna “told” during an interview with DJ Akademiks.
“I don’t sit up here and play games, man. That man told.”
Durk also shared a message for the rapper.
“You should’ve went in there and kept your mouth closed.”
Additionally, he explained his strong disdain for “rats.”
“I hate all rats. If you ever told, you ever tell — I hate you. Like with a passion… That made me who I am today [but] it took away half of my life — motherf*****s telling on my pops, and that’s who I needed…”
Roomies, are you excited that Gunna has made his return to music?
