Gucci Mane Details Feeling Like A First-Time Father With Baby Ice Despite Having An Older Child

Roommates, becoming a parent is unlike any other journey. There’s a mixture of happiness, exhaustion, growth, patience and love that comes into play. One celebrity who recently had no reservations about sharing his fatherhood journey is Gucci Mane. The rap star spoke with Billboard about his life and career five years after doing a prison bid for firearms possession. During the interview, Gucci detailed how his son Ice Davis makes him feel like a “first-time father.”

Ice is Gucci’s second-born son and first child with his wife and beauty and fitness entrepreneur Keyshia Ka’oir. Ice was born two days before Christmas in 2020. According to Keyshia, Gucci has been on point as a dad.

“For maybe the first four weeks, [Gucci] put him to sleep every night on his chest by himself,” Keyshia said.“He’s a great dad.”

However, Billboard reports that Gucci “felt like a first-time father with Ice.” As you may already know, the artist and record label owner also has a 14-year-old son from a previous engagement. Gucci shared with Billboard that he didn’t become aware of his eldest son until he was 10 months old. Additionally, he didn’t meet his son until he was a one-year-old.

“Me and the mother were kind of like strangers,” Gucci told Billboard.

Therefore with Ice, Gucci had the opportunity to experience fatherhood from conception to delivery and beyond. Still, Gucci explained how difficult being a parent can be.

“I never knew how much attention you got to pay to a baby,” Gucci said. “It’s not easy. It’s a great thing and I love it, but it’s definitely challenging to be a parent.”

Gucci’s hope and plan is to “build something” for Ice. He has a new album called “Ice Daddy” dropping on Father’s Day, which will detail his relationship with his own father and his infant son. Ice serves as the model for the album’s cover art and is credited as an executive producer.

“I always want my music to talk about what was going on in my life,” Gucci said. “And the most important thing in my life now is my son.”
