Actress Gina Rodriguez was a trending topic today after fans called her out for singing the “n-word” aloud as she sung the lyrics to The Fugees’ “Ready Or Not.”
The video of her singing was originally uploaded to her Instagram story, but Gina deleted the video following the backlash she received for using the racial slur. In the video, she is seen singing along to the popular song as someone does her makeup.
About four hours after she uploaded the video, fans started up on Twitter criticizing her use of the word and some users even suggested she was canceled.
“Everyone on my tl roasting Gina Rodriguez as they should,” one tweet read.
It wasn’t long before her video started circulating that she took it down then uploaded another video to her story where she addressed the backlack and apologized for offending her fans.
“Hey what’s up everybody, I just wanted to reach out and apologize,” Gina said in the video. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry if I offended anyone by singing along to The Fugees, to a song I love, that I grew up on. I love Lauryn Hill and um, I really am sorry if I offended you.”
Social media users weighed in on the issue following Gina’s apology. While many were upset with her use of the word, others argued that people were being too sensitive and that Gina, who identifies as Latina, was just singing along with the song.
