George Floyd’s Funeral Will Be Held In Houston As Well As Memorial Services In Other Cities That Include Minneapolis & North Carolina—Tickets Will Be Available For Those Who Want To Attend

Over a week since he was tragically murdered at the hands of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, George Floyd is set to have multiple services planned to celebrate his life. According to new reports, George Floyd will have memorial services in both Minneapolis and North Carolina—while his official funeral will be held in Houston.

@AJC reports, George Floyd will have two memorial services. The first is scheduled from 1-3PM on June 4th in Minneapolis and the second will take place on June 6th also from 1-3PM in North Carolina where he was born. Additionally, a public viewing is scheduled for June 8th at The Fountain of Praise Church near Houston, Texas where Floyd grew up, from 12-6PM. Meanwhile, his official funeral is planned for 11AM on June 9th at the same church, with his burial to follow.

In a new release regarding the funeral, it was announced that the service will be ticketed. Floyd’s family has requested that his funeral be “grand” and were searching tirelessly to find a venue to hold all of the expected attendees to pay their respects—which is likely why the funeral had to require tickets. Fort Bend Memorial Planning Center in Texas is handling all of the arrangements for each of George Floyd’s services.

“We were contacted by the family a day after Mr. Floyd passed away to conduct the services and facilitate the services for his celebration of life,” Fort Bend Memorial Planning Center owner Bobby Swearington said.

Swearington continued, adding:

“Not an easy thing to do with the magnitude and the amount of visitors that we are expecting to embark upon Houston when his services commence. It’s just so much that we are having to put together, we want to make sure that we are able to exercise social distancing, so we had to find a facility. We’ve had just an outpouring of support from so many people. People wanted to send carriages and doves and arrangements to the family. Artists, monument makers, just everyone is finding an avenue to commemorate Mr. Floyd.”

As we previously reported, Floyd Mayweather has agreed to cover the expenses of George Floyd’s funeral.
