A pregnant woman was fatally shot after allegedly attempting to rob someone inside a car Monday afternoon. According to Fox 32 Chicago, the robbery took place on Chicago’s Northwest side.
The 21-year-old has now been identified as Genesis Escobar. According to the outlet, police report that Escobar entered a vehicle “in the 5200 block of West Montana Street.” Additionally, upon her entry into the vehicle, Escobar allegedly “announced a robbery.”
From there, the outlet reports that there was an exchange of gunfire between “people inside the vehicle and someone outside the car.”
According to police, Escobar was struck in the shoulder, back, and hand.
Iris Alvarez, a friend of Escobar’s, told reporters that she happened to look out the window after hearing four gunshots.
We looked out the window and seen that the vehicle – someone opened the driver door, walked around the vehicle, pulled the body out and drove off. I feel that for a person to do that to someone, doesn’t have a heart.
In addition, Alvarez told CBS News Chicago that the person who pulled Escobar’s body out of the vehicle dumped a wad of cash on her body.
They threw a bunch of money on top of her… I don’t know if she was into some kind of trouble.
According to the outlet, people gathered at the intersection, attempting to render aid to Escobar before police arrived.
According to Fox 32 Chicago, the 21-year-old was transported to Illinois Masonic Medical Center and was pronounced dead. Additionally, friends of Escobar’s told reporters at the scene that the woman was seven months pregnant. Unfortunately, her baby did not survive.
Alvarez shared the update with reporters.
When we got to the hospital, unfortunately, the baby was not able to be saved and she passed away as well.
Additionally, Alvarex informed reporters that Escobar was pregnant with her first child. Furthermore, the 21-year-old mother was expecting a baby girl.
My heart is broken in pieces. She was also seven months pregnant with a baby girl.
According to Fox 32 Chicago, no suspects are in custody “as detectives investigate.”
