Whew! Companies left, and right have ended their relationships with Ye following his anti-semantic comments, and it doesn’t seem to be dying down anytime soon. According to ABC News, Gap has taken immediate steps to remove Yeezy Gap products from its stores. If you recall, in September, they announced the Yeezy Gap partnership would end after Ye said he wanted to terminate the deal for various reasons.
Ye blasted the apparel chain on social media for shady business practices. The Wall Street Journal obtained a letter from the GRAMMY-awarding winning rapper’s lawyers notifying Gap that he decided to terminate the partnership. The letter alleged that Gap breached the partnership contract by “not releasing apparel and opening retail stores as planned.”
The rapper even previously called out the Gap’s leadership, saying, “Don’t bring a leader in and have them not lead. Why would I argue that people are getting paid by the Gap? I’m sorry, you know I’m not gonna argue with people that are broke than me about money.”
While both parties seemed to be on the same page about the partnership ending in September, Gap is also speaking against Ye following his anti-Semitic comments. In a statement, they said, “Our former partner’s recent remarks and behavior further underscore why. We are taking immediate steps to remove Yeezy Gap products from our stores, and we have shut down Yeezygap.com.”
The statement continued, “Antisemitism, racism, and hate in any form are inexcusable and not tolerated in accordance with our values. On behalf of our customers, employees, and shareholders, we are partnering with organizations that combat hate and discrimination.” As we previously reported, Adidas, Balenciaga, and Def Jam have cut ties with Ye. The termination of several partnerships has caused Ye to lose his billionaire status.
