While she’s a big-name superstar with a star-studded family, Gabrielle Union is opening up about how she still works to overcome.
Despite these anxieties, however, Gabrielle was sure to point out that—in her and Dwyane Wade‘s household—they split finances right down the middle.
During a recent sit-down on Bloomberg’s Idea Generation, Gabrielle spoke on the subject.
About 18 minutes into the 38-minute interview, host Noah Callahan-Bever asks Union when she began to “develop that first sense of security” in knowing that she’s an established actress who will continue to get work.
The Bring It On actress declared, “I struggle with that.”
While elaborating, she explained that she feels she has “more responsibilities for [her] money.” As a result, she’s filled with anxieties about successfully profiting off projects and staying in tip-top financial shape, which makes her “nervous.”
She explained the thought process behind these anxieties by remarking, “Oh, that movie didn’t open. What does that mean? Am I gonna have enough to hold everybody up?”
In the face of these feelings, Gabrielle is trying to “calm down” and refrain from allowing her “scarcity mindset to be [her] engine.”
“I’m trying to find peace in the journey [of] not using my anxiety and scarcity mindset to be my engine. Which is hard.”
Shortly after that, Gabrielle spoke on some of the financial dynamics within her household. She revealed that she and Dwyane “split everything 50/50.”
“It’s weird to say I’m head of household because, in this household, we split everything 50/50.”
Union went on to speak on the looming pressure of working to stay afloat and continue fulfilling her financial duties.
“In the other households that each of us have to support, it puts this gorilla on your back that is like, ‘You better work, b***h!…You wanna sleep in? Somebody might not eat.'”
She finished the thought by adding, “It’s hard to let that go, so I’m working on that.”
