Future is living up to his name, at least in the fashion department. Future is known for trendsetting, especially when it comes to luxury items and his newest purchase is spot on with that reputation. Future is now the owner of a pair of $36,000 Birkenstock sandals. You know the brand–the orthopedic sandals your parents might wear for pain relief.
Well now, the sandals just got a luxury upgrade from MSCHF, a Brooklyn-based art collective, and Future appears to be one of their first customers.
MSCHF is offering the “Birkinstocks,” which has no official affiliation to the German shoe brand, made up of an actual cut up Birkin bag. The sandals are priced between $34,000 and $76,000.
Future claims to have copped his for a mere $36,000.
According to CNN, MSCHF spent $122,500 in new Birkin bags to use as raw materials for the project. That figure doesn’t include the cost of the sandals’ cork-latex sole, custom-made gold vermeil buckle and the actual production of the shoe — which apparently was challenging given the first handful of leather workers approached by MSCHF refused to participate.
“Just the act of cutting up a Birkin bag scared so many people,” Lukas Bentel, MSCHF’s creative director, said in a phone interview with CNN. “A Birkin bag is like an art object. It’s so sacred, you can’t damage it.”
Future is really out here rocking a Birkin on his feet, compared to other rappers who have used the costly bag as a token of affection.
Future rocked his sandals with a sweatsuit topped with a near floor length fur coat, a baseball cap and sunglasses.
He also made sure to rock his sandals with white socks, definitely a fashion statement on its own.
We’ll be curious to see who will dare try to pull off this look next but we can definitely say that Future is among the first of the celebrity rappers to do it.
