Back in August Frank Ocean finally released his highly anticipated album after a four-year hiatus. He treated his to fans to not one, but two projects.
With the success of his album “Blonde” and his visual album, “Endless,” it would be easy to believe that he would be nominated for the 2017 Grammy Awards. However, despite the success of both projects, Frank Ocean is ineligible.
According to Billboard, both projects were released before the September 30th deadline, however neither of the two were submitted for consideration.
It was revealed shortly after the albums release that, “Endless” fulfilled Frank Ocean’s contract with Def Jam. Therefore, when he released his “Blonde” album it was independently on his own imprint.
At first it was unclear on whether or not the albums were intentionally not submitted for consideration, or if they were simply overlooked. However, a source close to Frank’s camp reveals that they were aware of the deadlines and made the decision not to submit.
Back in 2013 he was nominated for five Grammy’s for his album, “Channel Orange” and he walked away with two.
Hopefully Frank Ocean can at least land a spot on the Grammy stage to perform some of his new music.
The nominees for the 2017 Grammy Awards will be revealed on December 8th and the award show will take place February 12th 2017 on CBS.
