Prior to releasing his highly anticipated album, “Blonde”, many fans pretty much begged and pleaded for Frank Ocean to release the follow up to his 2012 album, “Channel Orange.”
Now new details have emerged, as to why it may have taken Frank Ocean four years to drop a new album.
According to Billboard, an insider told the Associated Press that the relationship between Frank and Def Jam has been deteriorating. As a result Def Jam decided to let Frank Ocean out of his contract early because their relationship was like a “bad marriage.”
The insider who spoke on the situation did not reveal how many albums Frank Ocean was under contract for, however his visual album, “Endless” fulfilled their deal after negotiation. Which of course meant that his album “Blonde,” was released independently.
The insider said, “He didn’t want to be on a label. He wanted to do his own thing.”
The release of “Blonde” came as a surprise as to both fans and Def Jam, nonetheless the project was a complete hit.
“Blonde” reached No.1 on Billboard’s 200 albums chart.
