The countdown until the Obama’s leave the White House has officially started, which means that the countdown until the next inauguration has started as well.
We all know it has been a struggle trying to find an artist that is willing to perform at the inauguration for Donald Trump. Many big names in music have already declined, but one singer is willing to accept the invitation under one condition.
According to Complex, former X-Factor contestant and British singer Rebecca Ferguson claims that she has received an invitation to perform at the inauguration. She said she would accept the invitation, only if they allow her to sing the 1930’s song, “Strange Fruit,” which protested against American racism.
Ferguson said, “I’ve been asked and this is my answer. If you allow me to sing “strange fruit” a song that has huge historical importance, a song that was blacklisted in the United States for being too controversial. A song that speaks to all the disregarded and down trodden black people in the United States. A song that is a reminder of how love is the only thing that will conquer all the hatred in this world, then I will graciously accept your invitation and see you in Washington.”
